Lotus Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: LOT), the Nasdaq-listed maker of high-end electric vehicles and sports cars, signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding on July 28, 2026 with Finloop Finance Technology Holding Limited and Singapore-headquartered FOMO Pay to examine real-world asset tokenization in luxury mobility. The three-party agreement covers technical cooperation in asset issuance, tokenization, distribution, and the development of compliant operating models for digital-asset payment services.
Each party brings a distinct infrastructure role to the arrangement. Finloop contributes its FinRWA Platform (FRP), which the company describes as Asia's first one-stop RWA technology, issuance, and distribution platform, and whose press release claims the platform has completed multiple tokenized product issuances — though no specific transactions were cited. FOMO Pay, licensed in Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Middle East and operating a cross-border payment network spanning Southeast Asia, the Greater Bay Area, and the Middle East and North Africa, will provide payment infrastructure alongside on-chain settlement capabilities.
Lotus Tech, a brand with 78 years of automotive history, enters the arrangement as the asset originator — the entity whose vehicles would serve as the underlying real-world assets subject to tokenization. The MOU also contemplates exploration of innovative tokenomics models and compliance-driven integration into the Web3 ecosystem. The announcement names no specific blockchain protocol, token standard, or technical architecture.
Regulatory complexity for vehicle tokenization is particularly acute across the three jurisdictions implicated by the parties' existing licenses. Cross-border AML compliance, physical custody auditing of depreciating assets, and multi-jurisdictional securities law requirements — spanning U.S. rules, the EU's MiCA framework, and Singapore's Payment Services Act — each present distinct structuring questions that the MOU does not address. Whether tokenized vehicles would be classified as securities, payment tokens, or utility tokens under any of these regimes remains an open question that definitive agreements would need to resolve.
Vehicles remain a comparatively under-explored asset class in the tokenized RWA market. CryptoNews reported that tokenized RWAs on public ledgers crossed a $20 billion milestone as of mid-2026, with the bulk of that volume concentrated in private credit, U.S. Treasuries, and real estate. The CryptoNews coverage of the Lotus announcement noted the collaboration as an early-stage exploratory move into a segment that has seen little institutional precedent.
No Blockchain, Timeline, or Structure Disclosed: Vehicle tokenization
Automotive World confirmed that no scope, terms, or timeline have been agreed, and that each party remains subject to the negotiation and execution of definitive agreements before any cooperation proceeds. The MOU does not identify a specific vehicle model or fleet to be tokenized, a target jurisdiction for token issuance, a custody solution for the underlying physical assets, a regulatory approval from any relevant authority, or a committed capital allocation from any of the three parties. The announcement does not disclose whether Lotus Tech intends to tokenize new vehicles, used inventory, or lease receivables, nor does it specify the legal structure — whether a special purpose vehicle, a trust, or a direct on-chain issuance — that any future product would use.
The immediate effect of the MOU is therefore limited to establishing a formal exploratory framework among the three parties. The announcement does not establish a launched tokenized product, a live payment integration, or a regulatory approval in any of the jurisdictions where FOMO Pay holds licenses.
